Day three - Mount Ainos

If you want to go to Mount Ainos, I would recommend you reserve a whole day for that. It's quite difficult to get there without a car. But if you have rented a car, driving there is no problem if you're not afraid of hights. The road is good all the way up to the antennas which you can see from almost everywhere in Kefalonia. But if you want to make most of your hike, start from the gate to the natural park. It's a long hike, but the forests on the mountain slopes are beautiful and it's very enjoyable. That of course if you are fit and enjoy hiking. There are of course many hiking routes in the national park, you can find information about them for example here:

The slopes of the mountain are covered with a fir tree called Abies Cephalonica. The forest gives nice shadow on a sunny day. There'a a very special atmosphere in the forests of Mount Ainos and I think there's even a special scent. It's very enjoyable to walk there.

The last hundred meters are quite hard since it goes very steeply upwards but there are stairs to make it easier.

If you don't want to take the last hard part to the top, you can still admire the magnificent views down and to the surroundings very near where the asphalt road ends near the antennas.
